The Heart of the Matter这件铜雕作为著名,每年授予获得TCT终身成就奖的介入医生。 Israeli Sculptor Akiva Head Tues

The Heart of the Matter授予了Eugene Braunwald医生,他承诺将会把它陈列在他的办公桌上。”

Key Points:

• Through his art, Akiva Huber opens his own heart to interventionalists.

By TCT Daily Staff

Akiva Huber has one goal in mind during TCT each year: to merge science and art.

For the past eight years, the sculptor has designed and displayed dozens of works in the halls of the Walter E. Washington Convention Center. Most notable is his bronze sculpture, The Heart of the Matter, which is given each year to the recipient of the TCT Career Achievement Award. The sculpture, Huber says, is based on his interpretation of the duality and temptation of life.Israeli Sculptor Akiva Head Tues

This year, more than 20 of his sculptures are on display as part of his exhibit titled The Art Comes From the Heart.

"It has become a tradition to arrange my exhibitions during the TCT meetings. Every year I bring new sculptures to this exhibition – it is like a birth each time – and is always a great challenge," said Huber, who lives, sculpts, and works in Haifa, Israel.

"I am deeply convinced that the majority of interventional cardiologists feel a close link between science and art, despite the obvious differences between them. This is a real chance for the interventional community to feel more close to art during this meeting," he said.

Huber, too, merges science and art – he is chief radiology specialist of the division of invasive cardiology at Rambam Medical Center in Haifa.

It was here at TCT in 2004 that Huber says he received the ultimate compliment. "The most meaningful award for me was the fact that my sculpture, The Heart of the Matter, was awarded to Dr. Eugene Braunwald, who promised to keep it on his working desk," he said.

Huber draws inspiration from his past. Born in France in 1947 to Holocaust survivors from Hungary, he grew up in Haifa. There he acquired his fascination with the sensitivity, compassion, and awareness of the duality of life. Topics of his artwork include gender relations, separation, and Biblical motifs.

In addition to his exhibit at TCT, Huber’s works have been displayed in numerous galleries and exhibitions around the world. Most recently, his sculptures were on display at Caprice Gallery and in a group exhibit at Zenit Gallery in Washington, D.C. He also is a member of the Israeli Association of Painters and Sculptors.
